Medicinal Chemistry

Technologies & Capabilities

| Discussing medchem in the lab |
Medicinal chemistry is a combination of sciences, with chemistry at its core, which aims to bring together data from many different types of assays, including:
- enzyme binding and functional assays
- cellular assays such as biomarkers and cell proliferation
- physiochemical assays measuring drug solubility, chemical and metabolic stability, safety and pharmacokinetics
A successful drug is a balance of all these different properties and the eventual development candidate is not the most potent, most soluble, or most stable, but rather the best combination of desired features.

Structure-based design is used extensively at S*BIO, with ideas being generated in discussions between medicinal chemists and computational chemists.
The medicinal chemistry group also works with patent attorneys to ensure the growth and support of S*BIO’s intellectual property estate.
